It is the time of year we all cant wait for, the rain has been pouring and the rivers are definately flowing, so its definately time for us to get back in the water and practice our canyoning and gorge walking skills. As an instructor and guide you constantly need to update and hone your skills especially when it comes to the mountain and river enviroment.
Skills required to lead and instruct mountain and river activities such as Canyoning and Gorge Walking take years of experience and expertise to develop. The Mountains and rivers are an extremly harsh enviroment an expertise knowledge is essential especially when your main clientelle to follow you on the event are stag and hen groups with no prior knowledge or experience. We have numerous stag groups in cardiff and swansea with us through the season many not understanding the concept canyoning and gorge walking, therefore our personal skills have to be of the highest level.
We train and practice consistantly and at the beginning of every season run a full staff training weekend running through methods of safety, enviroment, evacuaction, first aid, group control and management, concordat, site assesments, HSE, enviromental assesments and all aspects of the gorge control and safety. Our instructors are from all over south wales, we have Lee, Dyfedd, Jarrod, Mathew and Rob from Cardiff, Stuart, Kath, Gareth and Ray from Swansea, Jason from Neath and Jacob from porthcawl. All members of staff are highly trained professionals in their feild and have many years of experience of leading and controlling groups in the gorge enviroment.
We will be taking documented pictures of the training activities and posting them on facebook, these may be of interest to see the skils we use to make sure the best possible safety for people on the Gorge.
