The rivers are high across the region of South Wales including Cardiff, Newport, Bridgend and Swansea and the rainfall is on and off throughout the week, also the high winds are bringing debris into the rivers with rock and tree fall through out the area. Special caution should be made for all mountain and river activities with the local turbulent conditions
At the moment the river levels on the Mellte river are .35 meters which is an acceptable level of waterflow for both the Mellte and the Sychryd rivers, however with the rainfall predicted over the next few days this may push levels upto .50 meters on the Mellte which would be high in our opinion, however the Sychryd river may be running lower and be more accessible. The .50 meter level is still acceptable for gorge walking events and activities over the next few days. The rainfall and weather is unpredictable at the moment due to hurricane Ophelia recently in the area
Keep an eye on the rainfall and the river levels as they will be fluctuating on the higher level, river temperatures are also low around the 8 degrees level so full protection is required including wetsuit, buoyancy aid, helmets, suitable footwear.
Coasteering Activities In Cardiff, Swansea & South Wales
Coasteering activities across the South Wales Region area a definite No go, the swell and wind area huge at the moment due to the effects of hurricane Ophelia, so head for West Wales if you want any time in the water coasteering.
Surfing, Surf Kayaking, Beach Days and Paddle Boarding
The surf is Huge at the moment and not for the faint hearted you'll need to be very good or very brave to surf alot of the breaks in South wales this week, definitely look for the more sheltered bays such as Coney Beach, Caswell, langland for a good chance of surf
