Once again the river levels on both the River Sychryd and River Mellte in the Brecons are fairly low, meaning our full programme of outdoor, river based activities, including Gorge Walking and Canyoning will be running across the weekend. There has been a bit of rain over this week so ground water levels are still reasonably high, meaning the waterfalls will be running well. Do be aware that with the low river levels the plunge pools in the jump areas may be shallower than normal, so you need to check each jump beforehand.
Whilst there is no rain forecast in the region this weekend, things can change quickly so you need to keep a close eye on the forecast and be aware that any heavy rain could quickly lead to flashing along the rivers. As always, full safety equipment is required, there is never a time it isn't, so helmets, buoyancy aids, wetsuits, etc. Don't let the levels fool you either. You must only take part in these river based activities if you are with an experienced guide who understands the water and the area.
Conditions are looking good for Coasteering along the South Wales coast this weekend. The swell looks like it will be small at only 1ft - 2ft and the wind is also gentle, under 10 knots across virtually the whole weekend. So this weekend is absolutely the time to get out with an experienced guide and explore the beauty of the South Wales coastline.
Full safety equipment will be required as always, which we of course will provide any groups who are with us, and being a coastal based activity things can change quickly, so make sure you keep a close eye on the wind and swell levels. High tide is early morning / early evening this weekend and is a medium tide so you will need to plan you activity around this to ensure you have the depth required in the jumps without cutting of your routes.
As is often the case, good Coasteering conditions means less than ideal surfing conditions. The swell looks to be tiny along most of the South Wales coast, so you could spend most of your day just bobbing about waiting for a wave to catch. Our advice is leave the surf board at home and try a different outdoor activity. There are so many options here in South Wales as we're blessed with stunning coastline and beautiful mountain areas, so why not give Coasteering, Gorge Walking or Canyoning ago this weekend?
As you can imagine, this is the busiest time of year for us and all of our guides are out and about on activities this weekend. We're welcoming our usual mix of Stag Do's from Cardiff and Swansea, Hen Parties from Cardiff and youth groups from across the South Wales region. It's a full programme of activities too this weekend, with Gorge Walking, Canyoning, Coasteering and Beach Days all running.
We were also out and about on Thursday, training along the South Wales coast to ensure our guides knowledge and experience is always kept up to date with best practices and also check out some new routes and activities that we can provide.
With Summer Holidays fast approaching we're not going to be getting any quieter any time soon and we'll be laying on custom designed outdoor activity days throughout the holidays as we welcome youth groups and scout troops who are either based in South Wales or visiting the area on a camp.
