River levels on the Mellte in the Brecon Beacons are currently quite low, however we are forecast some rain over the weekend so this could affect any Gorge Walking or Canyoning activities depending on how heavy the rain becomes. Although the river levels are fairly low, the ground should still be fairly saturated, so a prolonged spell of rain will have a big impact on the water levels.
If the river levels do stay at their current levels, then you will need to adjust any Gorge Walking or Canyoning activity accordingly as the plunge pools will be much shallower than you expect, meaning you need to re-consider your jumps and the effect the waterfalls will have.
As you can imagine, at this time of the year the temperatures here in South Wales are low, so thermal protection is more important than ever for any outdoor activity. We provide all of our guests with good quality wetsuits, as well as other safety equipment such as helmets and buoyancy aids. The water on the rocks and banks could also freeze, so footwear is critical too.
With the strong winds we are expecting over the next few days, all the way into Sunday, it looks like any Coasteering activities in South Wales will be off this weekend. The swell is on to top end of where we would want it to be but it's all about the wind this weekend.
We've got strong Southerlies and Westerlies for the next few days along the South Wales coast, reaching over 30 knots at times it is not the time to be stuck on the rocks along our coast.
Your best bet for a fun packed out door activity is to head inland to the Brecon Beacons with us and enjoy some Gorge Walking and Canyoning, which gives you many of the same experiences without the coastal conditions.
Once again, we'll have some good size swell for you surfers this weekend, possibly reaching 5ft+. However, as with Coasteering the problem will be the wind speed and direction.
Experienced surfers may find acceptable conditions in some of the sheltered bays we have along the South Wales coast such as Caswell Bay in Swansea or Rest Bay in Porthcawl. Inexperienced surfers should stay clear of the water in these conditions.
It's all about the planning of our activities at the moment. Due to the nature of a number of our outdoor activities, such as Gorge Walking and Canyoning the environment can dramatically change over a relatively short period of time, so we regularly visit the Brecons and review all of our routes and activities to ensure we can provide the safest activity possible without reducing the fun.
We're also working with a number of venues in Cardiff and Swansea to provide full Stag Do and Hen Party weekend packages. If you are thinking about your mates Stag or Hen Party, give us a call today before all of the spaces get booked up.
