We look to be having some really good conditions for both Gorge Walking and Canyoning this weekend, particularly on Saturday. The water levels on the rivers are currently good and ground saturation is also high, meaning the waterfalls should be constant too.
As with any outdoor activity at this time of the year, the biggest issue is going to be the temperature. Thermal protection is going to be vital, particularly for any activity that involves entering the water so you will need to ensure you have a good quality wet or dry suit, under layers and plenty of warm layers to put on before and after the activity.
Temperatures in the Brecon Beacon and waterfall areas aren't set to get much above 3° or 4° and will likely be dropping well below freezing over night, so ice on the rocks and river backs will be a concern with our outdoor activities. Full safety equipment is an absolute must; helmets, buoyancy aids, etc all of which we will provide. You'll also want to make sure you have an experienced activity guide who understands the area and local conditions.
Unfortunately, conditions still aren't quite right for our Coasteering activities this weekend. The swell along the South Wales coast is on the upper side of where we would want it to be but the wind is forecast to be too strong for any of our Coasteering activities to run. The wind will be up at around 10 - 12 knots and in an Easterly and Southerly direction across the whole weekend.
Fortunately, with the good Gorge Walking and Canyoning there's no reason you can't get out and enjoy so adrenaline filled activities if you are in the South Wales area, with Canyoning being a very similar activity, without the coastal conditions to contend with. We often take groups on our Canyoning activity who have experienced Coasteering and without fail they all enjoy it just as much!
We could see some good conditions for Surfing this weekend. There is a decent size swell along the South Wales coast, around 3ft - 5ft and, in the more sheltered bays along the South Wales coast the wind shouldn't be too much of a factor.
Particularly inexperienced surfers should avoid the water currently, the swell size, wind strength and temperature of the water could cause them problems, but those with experience of cold weather surfing, particularly in the UK, should find that our more sheltered bays such as Caswell Bay in Swansea or Rest Bay in Porthcawl provide some nice conditions this weekend.
We're back from our Scuba Diving Trip to South Africa and all ready for the season ahead. We're excited about all of the outdoor activities we're going to be providing this year. So whether you're looking to arrange a Stag Do, Hen Party, Scout Camp or just a fun weekend away with your mates in Cardiff, Swansea, Porthcawl or anywhere in South Wales, we'll have an activity that will suit.
Activities are already booking up, so if you've been thinking about doing something a little different, give us a call now so we can discuss the various options we have for you and your group.
