Water levels have increased a little bit from last weekend, and the recent rain has ensured ground water saturation is high. This should lead to some fun and challenging conditions this weekend for both Gorge Walking & Canyoning activities. The ground water levels will mean the waterfalls in the Brecon Beacons will be running well and if river levels remain the same then the plunge pools will be a good depth.
We are forecast some more rain over the next couple of days, and if it is significant in the mountain regions of South Wales we could see some flashing on both the River Mellte and River Sychrd, so make sure you are aware of rainfall levels across South Wales, particularly the mountain areas in the 12 - 18 hours before any outdoor activity.
Water temperatures are pretty constant throughout the year on the rivers but with air temperatures now low, thermal protection before, during and after any outdoor activity are vital. Lot's of layers, windproof jackets, warm liquids will all help you get and keep warm.
No Coasteering activities this weekend! We've got big swell and huge winds along the South Wales coast. Swell could be 6ft+ and winds are forecast to be gusting up to 40mph at times. The coast is not the place to be. Our advice? Head inland to the beautiful Brecon Beacons and try some a Gorge Walking or Canyoning activity instead.
You're going to get swell this weekend. Lot's of it. Experienced surfers will be able to find some big waves to catch over the weekend, however conditions are going to be tough with strong Westerlies. If you do want to venture out for any kind of surfing activity, head for some of South Wales' more sheltered bays, such as Caswell Bay or Oxwich Bay in Swansea or Rest Bay in Porthcawl.
Inexperienced or weaker surfers will be best off staying out of the water this weekend and anybody taking part in any outdoor activity this weekend will need to ensure they have good thermal protection throughout the activity.
Things are starting to quieten down now as the weather gets colder less groups are visiting us for outdoor activities. We're still keeping plenty busy though, with lots of planning happening on our packages for stag parties and hen parties in the Cardiff, Swansea and Porthcawl areas. We're also planning a number of activity weekends for groups in 2017, including youth clubs, scouts and schools.
We're also continuing to train all of our guides, running first aid refresher courses, RLSS Water Safety courses and going out on the Gorge and beaches for some practical training.
