River levels in South Wales are going to be higher than they have been over the last few weeks, making any Gorge Walking or Canyoning activity more challenging. Whilst they aren't high enough to stop any of our outdoor activities from running, you do need to be very aware of the increase in both the amount of water and the increased water flow.
Ground water levels will also be high, meaning the waterfalls will be flowing well but any further heavy rain could lead to flashing on the rivers, so you will need to be aware of any rainfall in the 6 - 12 hours before any activity.
Air temperatures have increased from the last couple of weeks too but will still be very cold. With Gorge Walking or Canyoning activities, thermal protection is going to be critical, and you need to consider what you will be wearing before, during and after any outdoor activity.
Coasteering is off this weekend, mainly due to the size of the swell we're expecting to see on the South Wales coast over the weekend. Swell could, at times reach 10ft. Even with the wind being reasonably gentle with that kind of well you don't want to be on the rocks along the coast with those waves coming in.
If you do really want to get out over the weekend, then your best option is going to be heading into the Brecon Beacons and taking part in one of our inland outdoor activities, such as Canyoning or Gorge Walking.
The experienced surfers may find they can pick up some big waves this weekend on the South Wales coast. The swell will be big and with a fairly long period we could see some great surfing conditions.
That being said, the conditions will also be very tough, particularly for in-expperienced surfers, so our advice is only enter the water if you are experienced and confident about the conditions. It's certainly not the right conditions for any novices or young surfers to be in the water!
We don't have any activities running this weekend, but that doesn't mean we aren't busy over the next few days. We've got safety equipment that will be getting serviced, lot's of Stag Do's and Hen Parties heading to Cardiff, Swansea and Porthcawl that have booked and need planning and more training for our guides.
