The weather been a bit wet this week, not unusual for here in South Wales, but that means the water levels on both the Sychryd and Melte Gorges in the Brecon Beacons will be good and the water being held in the land will help ensure that waterfall levels remain constant too. All in all, we're set for some really good conditions for both Gorge Walking and Canyoning this weekend if current predictions are correct.
We say it every time, because it's so important, but be aware of any rainfall in the previous 12 - 18 hours as it could lead to flashing on the Gorges. This will increase water levels and water flow force, so make sure you are aware of the level of rainfall on the mountain regions to stay informed and safe.
Swell is set to be low or flat again this weekend with good tide levels too. With winds set to be offshore Northerlies we could see some good conditions for Coasteering here on the South Coast of Wales, particularly in places such as Ogmore-by-Sea in Porthcawl and Caswell Bay in Swansea.
The swell is set to pick up to unsafe levels moving into next week and the wind is set to become onshore Southerlies and Westerlies meaning Coasteering is likely to be off the calendar during the middle of next week.
It's vital you keep up to date with the changing conditions, if the swell becomes too big or wind direction changes to Southerlies or Westerlies, you'll be better off heading inland to one of South Wales beautiful gorges for some Gorge Walking and Canyoning.
Once again the small swell over the weekend means surfers are going to find it harder to find the right conditions. Even with the moderate offshore wind you may find the swell just too small. Swell size is set to increase into the early to middle part of next week, but so too is wind speed and the direction becomes onshore Southerlies and Westerlies. If you are planning to head out next week for a surf, you should find more sheltered beaches, such as Rest Bay, Coney Beach or Llangenith.
Always keep an eye on tidal conditions and wind and for the best swell, look to surf the incoming tide, from about 11:00 - 13:00 this weekend.
Another busy weekend for us! We'll be taking groups to a variety of locations in South Wales for a mixture of activities, including Coasteering, Gorge Walking and beach activity days. We'll see the usual mix of Stag Do's from Cardiff, Swansea and across South Wales, groups celebrating birthdays and Hen Parties, showing the lads how it's really done.
As always in South Wales you need to be aware of the potential of flashing in the Gorges after any spell of heavy rain. Although air temperatures have increased in the last couple of weeks that won't have raised water temperatures too much so you will take precautions with regards to thermal protection.
Be aware of wind direction changing to a South / South West direction and swell size increasing for any beach or sea based activities.
